Hello Parents/Guardians,

Here are this week’s updates:

Principal Message:

Congratulations to our families who signed up for School-Day! Over 85% of our families signed up to receive weekly updates, permission forms for upcoming field trips, and school purchases. If you haven’t done so already, please call the Ms. Gibson in the office and she will assist you in the registration process. Next year, all forms will be on School-Day. On Wednesday and Thursday over 600 students received a freezie for having their parents sign up for School-Day. Thank you to our families for storing the freezies.

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL

It’s hard to believe that another year has come and gone. The last day for students is on Wednesday, June 29. There will be a brief assembly on Wednesday to celebrate our students’ hard work and dedication to their learning.

LOST AND FOUND ITEMS

There are tables full of items in our lost and found display in the main hall. Please stop by the school to take a look at the items. The lost and found items will be donated on Monday night.

WHAT CLASS AM I IN?

The Jean Steckle team has and will continue to put a considerable amount of work into the class building process. It takes a great amount of time, revision, and careful considerations. Primary classes are capped at 20, therefore, resulting in many blending classes. We cannot share your child’s teacher as we are still hiring for positions at Jean Steckle. Class lists will be posted on Friday, September 2 at 4:00 p.m.  Sometimes parents ask for changes in the fall not realizing the many factors which have gone into the final decisions. We cannot shuffle classrooms based on summer friendships or summer falling-outs. Please prepare your child to accept his or her class placement by saying things such as, “It doesn’t matter what class you are in – all teachers are great” or, “It doesn’t matter if you are not in the same class as your friend – you will see them at recess.” Please be confident in your child’s teacher. Remember that children take their cues from the reactions of the most important adults in their lives – their parents.

POLICE CHECKS FOR VOLUNTEERS

To align with board policy, volunteers at the school will require a Police Vulnerable Sector Check. We are asking that parents and family members who are interested in volunteering in the school or on field trips have this check completed. Students will receive a letter on Friday, June 24 that will allow for volunteers to receive this check at the reduced rate of $10. Once you receive your Police Vulnerable Sector Check, please send it to the office. All volunteers are asked to have their police checks by December 2016. If you have any questions or concerns, please email andrea_michelutti@wrdsb.on.ca or call the school at 519-748-1919.

REPORT CARD INFORMATION:

Teachers will be busy the next few weeks completing the final report cards for this year. The report cards will be sent home on Monday, June 27. If your child is not at school that week, the report cards will be mailed out. Unfortunately, we will not be able to hand out report cards before June 27.

Upcoming Events:

June 24 – Volunteer Breakfast 8:00 a.m.

June 24 – Grade 1 to Grade 8 Play Day – Please bring a hat and sunscreen.

June 28 – Grade 8 Graduation

June 30 – Professional Activity Day (the school will be closed for students)
