Dear families,

In February and March, our students will be focusing on teamwork, the T in our STING (speak with good purpose, teamwork, integrity, never give up, and gratitude). When students are showing good teamwork and team spirit in the gym, on the playground, and in the classroom, they may receive a bee. Students will write their names on the bee and place it on hives around the school. The grade 5 students in Mrs. Brown’s class will be visiting all classrooms to talk about this exciting project. Let’s work together!

The office staff would like to thank our parents for calling the attendance line to report their child late or absent. The attendance line is open 24 hours a day. If you know your child will have an appointment, parents can call ahead to report absences from now until June. Please call the attendance check phone number 519-570-8018, then press 3943#.

Kindergarten Registration

We are delighted to welcome your child to Kindergarten. The purpose of Kindergarten is to help build a strong foundation for learning in a safe and caring play-based environment. Kindergarten promotes the social, emotional, physical, language, and cognitive development of all children. The Kindergarten program is based on the understanding that children develop at their own pace. Children in Kindergarten are provided with a secure, respectful and nurturing environment, where their developmental needs can be supported through varied experiences.

We are asking that all families register their children before March 30 to ensure we have the correct number of classes for the upcoming school year. Please share the registration information with your neighbours.

The online registration is open for students born in 2013 for Junior Kindergarten. Please visit this website https://www.wrdsb.ca/kindergarten/its-time-to-register/#.WJOniNIrJeM.

After you register online, please call the school to book an appointment for the week of February 13 to February 17. Appointments are available between 9:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. You will need to bring the following documents when you come to the school to complete the registration:
Proof of address: utility bill, proof of Ontario Property Assessment Notice, or lease agreement
Proof of birth: birth certificate, Canadian Passport, birth registration, citizenship card or statement of live birth
Proof of custody where applicable: custody orders, court-ordered guardianship

Please submit your child’s immunization information online directly to the Region of Waterloo Public Health http://chd.region.waterloo.on.ca/en/healthyLivingHealthProtection/ivpd.asp

We are excited to meet all of our new students on March 23 between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Fewer Distractions = More Learning:

We would like to ask for your assistance in helping us implement our “Fewer Distractions = More Learning” policy at Jean Steckle P.S. In the interest of making the best possible learning environment for all of our students; we are asking parents to respect our policy of dropping off or picking up students at the office. Please refrain from walking them to class or picking them up from class. We feel that this is the best policy to promote learning for all students and makes for the most efficient transition into learning for our late arrivers. We are experiencing a large volume of students being late; please remember that students are expected to be at their entry doors at 8:30 a.m. to ensure they can enter the school with their classmates. Thank you for your joint effort in creating the best learning environment for all of our students.
