Dear Families,

Thank you to our Eco-Bees for their work with our garden. It was amazing to see our students work so hard to build the vegetable boxes and fill them up with soil. It will be an exciting time for our students to see the fruits and vegetables grow over the next few months.

Outdoor physical education classes

When the weather gets warmer or the gym is being used for activities, students are often taken outdoors for their physical education classes. At the end of the day, parents and caregivers are asked to stand around the perimeter of the tarmac so the students can participate in their activities.

Jump Rope for Heart

Jean Steckle P.S is pleased to be holding a Heart & Stroke Jump Rope for Heart event on Thursday, May 16th. Students will participate in various jumping and skipping activities in our school gym and on our tarmac.  All money raised will support Heart & Stroke in their mission to promote children’s health and fund vital heart and stroke research.

Jump Rope for Heart encourages kids to get active by jumping while bringing in donations for heart disease and stroke research. They also learn the importance of living a healthy lifestyle and giving back to their community.

We are kindly asking for families to send in a loonie, toonie, or spare change. Each classroom will have a decorated Jump Rope For Heart container for students to put their donations in. Any amount of donation is greatly appreciated and can be brought in on or before our school jump day.  In addition to fundraising, students are invited to bring in their skipping rope and wear red to show their support.

Safety Procedures

Every spring, students will practice three fire drills and one tornado drill so we can review our procedures to ensure all of our students are safe.

“Girls Night In”

This year at Jean Steckle, we started a Girl Talk Chapter with some of our Grade 8 girls. This group is designed to empower girls to build confidence and self-esteem and to provide them with a variety of leadership opportunities. One of our school chapter’s commitment is to host a “Girls Night In” event.

Our fabulous Girl Talk Group is very excited to invite all Grade 5, 6 and 7 girls from Jean Steckle and Janet Metcalfe to a fun-filled evening at Jean Steckle on Wednesday, May 15th from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

The evening will consist of some fun and creative dance moves led by Kim Basler, a Goodlife Group Fitness Instructor, and 10 interactive activity stations run by our Girl Talk members. The night will end with a motivational speaker, Taylor Lindsay-Noel. A portion of the proceeds will go to Innisfree Hospice in Kitchener.
