Dear Families,

Congratulations to our primary students for participating in the track and field event. All of the students demonstrated respect and determination.

We are looking for six volunteers to help with our Strong Start reading program for next year. This program helps our students improve their literacy skills. If you are interested in volunteering for this important program, please email jennifer_evans@wrdsb.ca.

On Tuesday, June 18, we will be having five school buses in the parking lot in the morning (between 8:15 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.) and in the afternoon (between 2:15 p.m. and 2:50 p.m.)  We are asking parents to drop off or pick up their children on the side streets to avoid the congestion in the parking lot. We thank you for your help.

Thank you for another great week!

Andrea Michelutti, Principal

Steckle Spotlight – Owen Aldridge

One of our Grade 6 students, Owen Aldridge was recently featured on CTV news to share the great work he is doing to support the Great Cycle Challenge to fight kids’ cancer.

This is the fourth year that Owen is participating in this event. His goal is to ride 250 km and raise money to support the SickKids Foundation that will work on developing treatments and finding a cure for childhood cancer.

Owen is doing this ride because over 1400 children are diagnosed with cancer every year and it’s the biggest killer of children from disease in Canada. Kids should be living life, not fighting for it.

Please consider donating to the SickKids Foundation and the Great Cycle Challenge.

Eco Bees Challenge

Greentec is an environmental fundraising program that educates our students on the importance of recycling cell phones, laptops, computers, tablets, routers and hard drives responsibly while, at the same time, raising much needed funds for important school initiatives.

We ask that you drop off your unwanted Cell Phones, laptops, computers, tablets/iPads, routers/modems and hard drives to help us raise funds for that will be directly put back into green initiatives at Jean Steckle.

We will collect from June 17-21 and items can be dropped off in the main office.

Greentec will wipe any data once our shipment arrives at their facility.

Greentec accepts all brands of cell phones/smart phones, laptops, computers, tablets/iPads, routers/modems and hard drives.

Your support of the fundraiser sets a good example for our students as they learn about the value of recycling.

If you would like more information, please speak with our school’s fundraising Advocate Karina Meier (karina_meier@wrdsb.ca)

You’re welcome to visit www.greentec.com or email nzweep@greentec.com or speak with Greentec representative Naomi Zweep by calling 519.624.3300 Ext. 264
