Dear families,

To ensure a smooth morning on a rainy day or an extreme weather day, please adhere to our early entry plan. Students in Kindergarten will continue to enter through their designated door. The students will be met by a DECE from our Kindergarten Program. All students from Grade 1 to Grade 8 will enter the school through the gym doors. Students will be supervised in the gym until the bell rings and at that time, the students will move to their classrooms. As a reminder, the front door is not an option to enter the building as we are unable to supervise that area and we ask that parents stay outside.

Thank you for another great week.

Andrea Michelutti, Principal

Popcorn Update

We are excited about our first popcorn day on Wednesday, November 7. Students in Kindergarten to Grade 3 are able to purchase a bag of “butter & salt” popcorn for $1 each or pay on School Day for 7 weeks ($7.00).

Students in Grade 4 to Grade 8 will purchase their popcorn outside of room 17. The cost of the bag is $1 and there will be four flavours: butter & salt, dill pickle, kettle corn, or white cheddar.

Fundraising Survey

The members of the school council are looking for information regarding fundraising projects (in-school fundraising and community fundraising. Please take a few minutes to fill out this brief survey.

Parking Lot Information/ Picking Up and Dropping Off Students

The safety of students and adults is a great concern at arrival and dismissal times due to the high volume. We are fortunate to be designated a walking school and we are thankful for our families that walk to school every day.

Please do not park in the school parking lot which is designated for staff. There are 2 available 15-minute parking spots available for picking up and dropping off your children. We continue to notice the heavy congestion due to the many cars entering the school parking lot before and after school. We are finding children are being dropped off in front of the school and in non designated parking areas. Please adhere to the signs and do not park in the fire lanes. Many cars are being left attended as parents are dropping off or picking up students. These cars are being reported to the by-law enforcement department. I am requesting that parents work with the school to ensure all students are safe.

There are designated parking spots for the daycare attached to the school. Unfortunately, these spaces are not for the families at Jean Steckle Public School and are only for the families in the daycare.

Parents who walk to the school to pick up their children are asked to wait outside of the yellow box since our entrance and hallways can become quite congested.

These procedures work well in assuring that pedestrian and vehicle traffic are separate at these busy times and that staff have a place to park. Drivers are expected to be very careful and drive slowly in the lot to respect the wishes and needs of our kind neighbours to assure the safety of your children and others. Thank you for your help in keeping everyone safe.
