Dear families,

We are excited for our dance-a-thon next week! Be sure to follow the directions below to purchase your glow wear items.

On Friday, February 8 the Eastwood Collegiate Institute Troupe performed a student-created play called “Power Out” about the importance of present and not always on a device or phone.

Thank you for a great week.

Sincerely,

Andrea Michelutti – Principal

Parking Lot Concerns

We continue to experience challenges with our parking lot. Families are asked to work together to ensure all of our students are safe. Please note that all parking spots are assigned for the use of the educators and volunteers at Jean Steckle P.S. Please do not use these parking spaces during the morning drop off.

Vehicles cannot be left unattended in the parking lot at any time. If you are walking your child to the entry door, please park on the road. Students are encouraged to walk to school to reduce the congestion in the parking lot.

Attendance

Reminder to call or email the school when your child will be late or absent.

The safety and well-being of your child is an important concern for us, and making sure your child arrives at school safely is a responsibility we take very seriously. That is why all elementary schools have a Safe Arrival Program to ensure that each and every student arrives at school safely.

Parents and guardians have a responsibility to contact the school when a child will be late or absent.

You now have two ways to contact the school to report your child’s absence or late arrival:

  1. Call Us – Our Attendance Line can be reached by calling 519-748-1919 dialling extension #1. Include your child’s name (and spelling), grade, class and reason for the absence.

Or;

  1. NEW!! Email us – You can send an email to jst-attendance@wrdsb.ca and include the following information:
  • Subject Line: Student’s Name
  • Body of Email: Student’s name, grade, class, your name, and the reason for the absence.

Select the option that is most convenient for you. Both options are available 24/7.

Reminder: During severe weather conditions, you have the option to keep your child home from school. Please remember, you must still call the school to alert them of your child’s absence or if they will be arriving late.

Our staff, families and caregivers are partners in every student’s learning journey. We appreciate your support in ensuring that every student arrives safely to school.

Dance-a-thon – February 14

We are excited to share that on February 14, we will be hosting our annual Dance-a-thon fundraiser. It will be filled with spectacular lighting and the best kid-appropriate music. We are going to move and groove our way to raising the needed funds to help our school. Each class will have approximately 50 minutes to show off their dance moves and have fun!

Amazing things are happening at Jean Steckle but we cannot do it without your support. Your donations will fund equipment for the physical education department as well as technology replacement. This is an opportunity to invest in something close to your heart – your child’s school experience.

We have three ways to donate:

  1. Cash: please place any cash donations in the envelopment that was sent home with your child
  2. School day: school items -> products
  3. Waterloo Education Foundation Inc (WEFI) ***this is the only way to obtain a tax receipt.
