Dear Families,

In the next few weeks, we will be spending some time exploring and enjoying the world of Mary Poppins.  It seems right that we spend a little more of that time getting to know the story and some of the important messages found within.  We were originally introduced to Mary Poppins in the 1934 novel by P.L. Travers. Mary Poppins has been adapted to other books, live theatre and movies.  Ms. Travers once stated….

“No culture can satisfactorily move along its forward course without its myths, which are its teachings, its fundamental dealing with the truth of things….”

The messages found within this story are about caring for our imaginations, and our children.  Mary Poppins is a protector of the family. She uses all her superpowers to help keep a family together by pointing out to parents how caring for children is a most choice-worthy life.  How lucky we are, as educators and parents, to have the opportunity every day to care for and educate our children.

Enjoy your extra long weekend with those you love and care for,

Rick Saunders,

Vice Principal
