Dear Jean Steckle families,

We held our first School Council meeting for the year and we had a great turn out virtually. We shared positive stories from this year’s start-up and discussed information related to the school. Our next meeting will take place on November November 25 at 6:00 p.m. If you are interested in attending, please email me at andrea_michelutti@wrdsb.ca.

Thank you for another great week. Our students and the team at Jean Steckle are amazing!

Have a great weekend,

Andrea Michelutti, Principal

Reorganization

Each spring, I begin the process of staffing our schools for the new school year. This process ensures we have enough teachers and support staff for our schools and classrooms based on the number of students we expect to attend school in September.

At the start of every school year, our school assesses the classroom numbers based on the actual number of students attending school. Sometimes, it is necessary to reorganize and make changes to classroom assignments. As you know, this school year is unlike anything we have experienced before. What makes this year more complex is that we now offer two learning options, in-person and distance learning, and we are allowing families and students the ability to change their preferred mode of learning at certain times throughout the year. This process requires us to make changes to class lists and staffing.

As a result, several students will be moved into new classrooms. If your child is being transitioned into a new classroom, they will be receiving a letter today and you will be receiving a message through School-Day. Our new class arrangements will begin on Thursday, October 22.

We wish to acknowledge that this transition is occurring early in Term One. We want to assure you that your child’s Term One Progress Report will be completed by your child’s current classroom teacher.  Should you have any questions or concerns prior to your child’s start date of October 22, please feel free to contact me.  Thank you for your understanding and support as we navigate these changes together.

Halloween – Friday, October 30

On Friday, October 30, students are invited to wear costumes to school, if they wish.

Costumes need to be able to fit under a jacket and must be easy for your child to manage in the washroom. Please avoid masks, props, and any costumes which include or show weapons, are particularly scary, or which represent someone else’s culture or religion.

As an alternative to costumes, your child may wish to wear black and orange or his or her favourite outfit.

Physical Education Class

Our amazing physical education teachers, Mrs. Meier and Mrs. Tilt will continue to have their physical education classes outside. Our students are encouraged to dress for the weather.

COVID-19 Screening

Safety is a shared responsibility between the school, the home and the community, and families play a critical role in limiting the spread of COVID-19. We remind parents/guardians, students and staff, that they must screen for COVID-19 as part of their morning routine.

Please use the NEW COVID-19 Screening before school each day.
