Dear Jean Steckle families,

Thank you for another great week! The students in Grade 4 to Grade 6 participated in a virtual presentation from Paul Davis, an internet safety speaker. Here are a few key messages he shared:

  • technology should never be in a child’s bedroom
  • Social media platforms have a minimum age of 13
  • Nothing is private online. That all social media are owned and operated by companies who have access to the information
  • Delete = myth. Nothing is completely deleted. Everything is in the “cloud” and can be traced.

We also have booked Paul Davis for a parent presentation in the winter to help our families learn more about social media and good digital citizenship.

This weekend the clocks change. Please remember to “fall back” on Sunday morning. The fire department recommends changing the batteries in your smoke detectors this weekend too.

Sincerely,

Andrea Michelutti, Principal

Volunteers Needed

We are still looking for a new parking lot attendant or volunteers who would like to stand in front of the school once or twice a month. If you are interested in either one of those positions, please contact the office at 519-748-1919 or email andrea_michelutti@wrdsb.ca.

Pumpkin Patrol

Once again this year, the Pumpkin Patrol will be patrolling our school and community on the evenings of Friday, October 30, Saturday, October 31, and Sunday, November 1. During these three nights, the Pumpkin Patrol will randomly visit schools to be a watchful eye.

We have experienced a reduction in vandalism at our Board facilities as a result of this program. It acts as a deterrent in decreasing the number of activities and damage to schools and increasing safety for school children who are out during those evenings.

COVID-19 Screening

Safety is a shared responsibility between the school, the home and the community, and families play a critical role in limiting the spread of COVID-19. We remind parents/guardians, students and staff, that they must screen for COVID-19 as part of their morning routine.

Please use the NEW COVID-19 Screening before school each day.
