November 20th, 2020
Dear Jean Steckle families,
Your child will be receiving their Progress Report card today. This Progress Report reflects learning that has occurred in a modified learning environment as required by public health guidelines. As a result, the amount and type of information on this progress report may differ from previous years due to the ongoing impact of COVID-19 on student learning. Ongoing communication with your child’s teacher will provide additional information pertaining to student progress throughout the term.
You will note that your child’s report card has only been signed by the school principal or vice-principal and not the classroom teacher. The teacher who wrote the progress report was the child’s teacher on October 21. The name at the top of the progress report card may not actually match this due to class re-organizations.
We wish to express our tremendous gratitude for your partnership, encouragement and support in these first few months of the 2020-2021 school year. As always, families are encouraged to reach to their child’s teacher about their ongoing progress throughout the school year.
Sincerely,
Andrea Michelutti, Principal
Professional Development Day – November 23
IMPORTANT: Monday, November 23, is a PD Day for all our elementary and secondary schools.
New Approach to Severe Weather Days
During severe weather conditions, we may need to cancel buses or close schools for the safety of our students and staff. In past years, the cancellation of buses has not automatically resulted in school closures, however, this year that will change with the launch of Weather Impacted Distance Learning Days. On days when buses are cancelled as a result of severe weather, schools will also be closed to students. Before and After School programs will also be closed on Weather Impacted Distance Learning Days.
Continuing Student Learning
Student learning will continue while our buildings are closed as we launch Weather Impacted Distance Learning Days. Following our procedure, staff and students can anticipate being notified of these closures by 6:00 am through the same communication channels as usual.
Teachers in both the in-person and distance learning programs will teach asynchronously from home and will be available to students during the regular school day hours.
Additional online resources will also be available via WRDSB@Home.
School Council – November 25 at 6:00 p.m.
If you are interested in joining our school council virtual meeting, please send an email to andrea_michelutti@wrdsb.ca.
A calendar invite will be sent to those interested on Monday.
COVID-19 Screening
Safety is a shared responsibility between the school, the home and the community, and families play a critical role in limiting the spread of COVID-19. We remind parents/guardians, students and staff, that they must screen for COVID-19 as part of their morning routine.
Please use COVID-19 Screening before school each day.
