Dear Jean Steckle families,
A special thank you to our students and their families who are walking to and from school. I have received many positive compliments from our neighbours about the number of students walking safely. I am so proud of our community. Keep up the great work!
I am excited to share that many of our students have signed up to be JST Trailblazers. Interested students in Grade 4 to 6, who have completed the training and passed the test, will be sporting safety vests as they walk to school. The training is completed at home. TheTraillblazers’ role is to help students when needed and be a friendly neighbour. If your child is interested in becoming a member of this vital program, please follow the instructions from the Trailblazer website. I would love to see over 100 students participating in this program. Students who sign up for this program will receive special prizes and will be entered into a draw to win bigger prizes.
Thank you to our families who continue to work with us during this time. I know this was a challenging week, and our community supported each other by remaining positive and respectful.
Stay safe,
Andrea Michelutti, Principal
Supporting our Community
Sometimes families struggle financially at different times along the way. If you find that your family is in a tight spot, please don’t hesitate to call Ms. Michelutti to discuss how we might help to support your family. These calls are confidential. We are always here to help.
Toys
This year we are limiting the number of items coming to school. We kindly ask that our students keep their toys at home.
News from the Huron Community Association – Food Drive
The Huron Community Association food drive is taking place on December 13 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 pm in front of Parkvale Park. The food drive will help the Kitchener Waterloo Food Bank (www.thefoodbank.ca). The most needed items do tend to change but are available at https://www.thefoodbank.ca/get-involved/most-needed/
Food drop-offs can take place anytime during those hours. There will be tables and bins for the donations, and the Huron Community Association will staff it.
The Huron Community Association is planning to have that be the “light up the Huron Hood” light walk evening as well. Everyone is encouraged to have encouraged everyone to decorate their homes with lights.
COVID-19 Information
Safety is a shared responsibility between the school, the home and the community, and families play a critical role in limiting the spread of COVID-19.
Please review the Resource for Parents – Know when to self-monitor, self-isolate or send your child to school resource. This document will help you navigate situations you and your family may face during this time.
It is even more essential to use COVID-19 Screening before school each day to ensure our students and staff remain safe.
