Dear families,

We are thankful for our great students and their families. We appreciate your continued support with signing the students’ planners and completing field trips online.

Thank you to our families who have helped to keep the sight lines clear during entry and dismissal times. I know it is challenging to stand behind the yellow line but we need to work together to ensure that all students can be seen when they are lining up.

Due to the congestion on the school yard during entry and dismissal times, students are reminded to walk their bikes, skateboards and scooters on school property. Thank you for your help with this matter.

Lunch Lady

The hot lunch committee on our School Council is excited to share a new partnership with the Lunch Lady. Please visit www.lunchlady.ca and register your child. This website is separate from School-Day. The first lunch is on Friday, November 4.

Move-a-thon – October 31

On October 31, all of the students will be participating in our annual move-a-thon. We are still accepting donations and would like all envelopes to be returned. We are hoping to raise a minimum of $12,000 for this event. If we raise enough money, this will be our only fundraising activity for the year.

The money this year will be to purchase document cameras and projectors for all classrooms, science kits, French Immersion materials, kindergarten outdoor learning materials, and items to replenish the technology already at Jean Steckle. Our biggest expense this year is to purchase additional math manipulatives and tools to help our students improve their math fluency.

All forms need to be returned. If your family would like to donate on-line, they may do so at www.pledge.me. If you would like to make a donation to the school and receive a tax receipt, please visit https://www.wrdsb.ca/wefi/ and allocate the donation to Jean Steckle P.S.

On the day of the event, the Glow store will be open for students to purchase items. The cost of the items range from $2 to $5.

Early Entry Procedures (rain days, extreme weather days)

To improve the entry procedures when the bell rings early before school when we have a rain day or an extreme weather day, we have adjusted the entry plan. Students in Kindergarten will continue to enter through their designated doors. The students will be met by a DECE from our Kindergarten Program. All students from Grade 1 to Grade 8 will enter the school through the gym doors. Students will be supervised in the gym until the bell rings and at that time, the students will move to their classrooms. Intermediate students will also report to the gym and then head upstairs when directed. As a reminder, the front door is not an option to enter the building as we are unable to supervise that area.
