Dear families,
Thank you to all of our families for visiting our school during our meet the teacher night. It was great to see our students and their families spend time visiting the school, meeting friends, and meeting their teachers.
Today, our kindergarten families received notice that our school will be adding a new kindergarten class on Monday, September 17. This is exciting news as there will be fewer students in our kindergarten classes. I know change can be difficult at times but please know that the educators at Jean Steckle PS will do everything to have a smooth transition. I would like to welcome Ms. Jessica Malcolm and Ms. Vanja Vasic as the new educators in the room.
We are having an assembly this week to celebrate our kind and caring students. Please wear blue, green or your STING wear. Let’s show your school spirit!

Police Vulnerable Sector Checks for Volunteers
To align with board policy, volunteers at the school will require a Police Vulnerable Sector Check. We are asking that parents and family members who are interesting in volunteering in the school, in classrooms, or on field trips have this check completed. Please send in your police check as soon as possible as parents will need to have this form in the school before they can attend field trips.
If you submitted a police check last year, we do not require a new check this year.
Parking Lot Information/ Picking Up and Dropping Off Students
The safety of students and adults is a great concern at arrival and dismissal times due to the high volume. We are fortunate to be designated a walking school and we are thankful for our families that walk to school every day.
Please do not park in the school parking lot which is designated for staff. There are 2 available 15 minute parking spots available for picking up and dropping off your children. We continue to notice the heavy congestion due to the many cars entering the school parking lot before and after school. We are finding children are being dropped off in front of the school and in non designated parking areas. Please adhere to the signs and do not park in the fire lanes.
There are designated parking spots for the daycare attached to the school. Unfortunately, these spaces are not for the families at Jean Steckle Public School and are only for the families in the daycare.
Parents who walk to the school to pick up their children are asked to wait outside of the yellow box since our entrance and hallways can become quite congested.
These procedures work well in assuring that pedestrian and vehicle traffic are separate at these busy times and that staff have a place to park. Drivers are expected to be very careful and drive slowly in the lot to respect the wishes and needs of our kind neighbours to assure the safety of your children and others. Thank you for your help in keeping everyone safe.
